U13 ladies: Replay joy for Moylagh

E-mail Print PDF

U-13 Div 3 Cup Girls Football Final (Replay)
Moylagh 1-6
Dee Rangers 1-4 (aet)
These two teams couldn't be separated when they met a week earlier and it was still all square at full time in the replay. Dee Rangers held a one point lead at half in extra time, but it was the girls from Moylagh that finished stronger to claim the title in what was a cliff hanger of a match.
Moylagh got of to the better start and went into a two point lead with two Lisa Mullen points before Dee Ranger's centre forward equalised with a brace to leave the sides level at the interval. There were chances for both sides but scores were hard to come by and when the final whistle blew they were tied yet again.
With the light beginning to fade the sides went into extra time searching for that vital score that could make a difference. There was only one additional score in the first half of extra time and it went to the girls in black and it gave them the edge as they entered the final period of extra time.
Moylagh got the first goal of the match when a Lisa Mullen cross ball was superbly palmed to the back of the net by Keady Flynn. However, the celebrations were short lived when Dee Rangers struck back with a goal of their own to regain the lead with time slipping by.
To their credit Moylagh dug deep and finished the stronger and hit 3 unanswered points (Lisa Mullen 0-2, Naoise Gibney 0-1) to claim the silverware by two points.
After two drawn games and a period of extra time, both teams and their mentors deserve a lot of credit for serving up a wonderful football match.
Scorers Moylagh: Lisa Mullen 0-5, Keady Flynn 1-0, Naoise Gibney 0-1

U13 Div 4 final: Inny Gaels' goals down Oldcastle

Inny Gaels 9-11
Oldcastle 4-9

This final between North Meath neighbours brought a large crowd to Ballinlough on a sunny November day to see both teams battle it out for the U-13 Division 4 title for 2011.

Oldcastle got off to the better start and were soon 1-1 to no score ahead in the early stages of the first half. However, Inny Gaels soon replied and despite being marked by two defenders, full forward Joseph Blake hit a hat trick of goals to steer the Moylagh / St Bridgids combination into a lead that they never surrendered for the remainder of the match.

Oldcastle added a further 5 first half points while Inny Gaels added a further 1-3 with Kevin Gilsenan (1-1) and two Dylan Tighe points to leave the half time score of 4-4 to 1-6 in favour of Inny Gaels.

Inny Gaels pressed on in the second half and were the better side in most positions playing some lovely direct football. However, Oldcastle had a purple patch ¾ way through the second half and for a short time looked like they may pull themselves back into contention with 3 second half goals. However with second half substitute Ben O'Reilly bringing his influence to bear on the game adding 2-2 to the Inny Gaels account along with goals from Darragh Moore, Dylan Tighe and Joseph Blake the Gaels always had too much for their town neighbours. 3 points from Joseph Blake and one each from Kevin Gilsenan and Dylan Tighe completed the scoring for Inny Gaels who ran out winners on a final score line of 9-11 to 4-9.

Inny Gaels back line of C. Boylan, R. McGivney, C. Smith, TJ Tully, H. O'Reilly, D Gibney and J Doyle all played well throughout with Darren Gibney being equally effective when moved to the attack for the second half. Kevin Gilsenan and Sean Reilly had the better of the midfield battle displaying some fine high catching throughout matched with a great work rate. The half forward line of M. Corrigan, D. Tighe and S. Gibney worked hard with Tighe contributing a personal tally of 1-3. The inside forward line of D. Moore, J Blake and D Scully contributed 5-4 between them with Blake the leading marksman with a fine personal tally of 4-4 on the day.

Inny Gaels Scorers: Joseph Blake 4-4, Kevin Gilsenan 1-2, Darragh Moore 1-0, Dylan Tighe 1-3, Ben O'Reilly 2-2

Inny Gaels - C Boylan, R. McGivney, C. Smith, TJ Tully, H. O'Reilly, D Gibney, J Doyle, K Gilsenan, S Reilly, M Corrigan, D. Tighe, S. Gibney, D. Moore, J Blake, D Scully. Subs: B. O'Reilly, A. Moore, C. Gibney, S. Moore, K. Tully, O. Smith
