Moylagh     2-15

Na Fianna   2-11

Moylagh produced a heartwarming performance in the Junior C Championship to put much a fancied Na Fianna side to the sword in Athboy on Saturday evening.

The early exchanges were closely fought with both sides hitting some fine scores from play (indeed all but one of Moylaghs total for the day came from play), with Willie McGrath and big fullforward Aengus Fanning looking dangerous in the winners forward line. Na Fianna looked to be getting the upper hand when Moylagh goalie Mike Corrigan carelessly passed the ball to the Na Fianna fullforward who in turn passed it into the Moylagh net. Moylagh were going through a rough patch at this stage with some poor passing out of defence resulting in at least two points for the losers. They eventually steadied the ship when Tommy Melia bravely fisted to the net to bring the sides in level at the break 1-6 apiece.

After a stern dressing down at half time, Moylagh upped the ante in the second half and started to build a useful lead with Danny O Growney and journeyman Shane Brody dominant in midfield and the forward line finding their range and with the defence looking comfortable, it looked the points were safely in the bag. However, the six point lead was soon wiped out when the winners took their foot off the pedal with ten minutes remaining to concede a quickfire 1-3 to leave the sides level with time running out. Moylagh showed great character at this point to regain momentum with Willie McGrath firing a stunning goal and Ciaran Hannon rounding off a fine individual display with the insurance point.

After the game, Moylagh selector Ollie Melia declared himself 'very pleased' with his sides efforts!
